I don’t usually ever watch the Grammys. I can’t remember the last time I actually did watch the Grammys. Honestly, I don’t recall ever sitting down and watching it from the begging to the end of the show. Tonight was no different. I went to a killer house show instead and even if I didn’t - I still wouldn’t watch them. But…
Whenever they announced the nominations last month or whatever I got a Tweet from Dan telling me that Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs was nominated for album of the year. I was surprised at first because to me the band is still the same small band they where when I bought Funeral at the end of 2004 just on a whim because I heard how good they were from a friend and the cover art was super cool. I instantly fell in love with it. I finally got to see them at the Beachland Ballroom in 2008 for Obama, I stood in line for over eight hours (five of those, alone) and then afterwards I stood in line for another hour or so in the blowing, March rain to see them again. Twice in the same night! I left a work dinner in Philadelphia to catch the second half of their set (still, very sad) this past August and it was easily one of the best shows I’ve seen. At a sold out venue that holds 15,000 or so people. I was like a little kid, smiling the whole time and singing along to every word to an album that came out the next day.
When Wake Up played over Where The Wild Things trailer in 2008 I was happy, I knew they were going to blow up. And they did. Hell, maybe at that point they already blew up. Tonight, it was a double edged sword: I wanted them to win the award because more than anyone in that cataoregery — they deserved it. They are an honest, hard working, talented band that makes the music they want and they do it well. Very well.
I wish for once I could have seen it live and not found out via Twitter, which I erupted when I saw it on my timeline. I need to find the video because from the sounds of it they were truly happy, appreciative and accepting of the award. Actually, I am going to watch the videos now. Be right back…
They always seemed like a band of good, happy, honest people who love music and tonight… a real band won, a band I actually really like. A band that is deserving. I know it sounds lame to most but I feel like my team just won the Super Bowl with Arcade Fire winning album of the year. This is one band that truly excites me. They give me hope that good music can and will still get recognized, no matter how long it takes — an underdog (because they where, who though they’d win)? Can win such an award. When the first 12” single from this album surfaced - I went nuts, I tracked down the deluxe edition of Neon Bible and overpaid to have it days before its release and when crazy looking for the last DVD they released. I love this band. They are great. And I don’t regret that day in December 2004 when I bought Funeral. Arcade Fire makes music that makes life even more worth living through.
We’re going to go play another song because we love playing music. -Win Butler

Check out my buddies Jeremy & Aaron’s new band first demo being disturbed by Death To False Hope. Get on this!
New Tyler, The Creator song off his second album dropping in April.
Most people I know don’t have or use Tumblr but I just wanted to thank everyone who went out, hung out, drank with me, bought me drinks and wished me happy birthday (all 60+ of you via Facebook wall posts, Tweets, text messages or phone calls). It was a damn good three days. I drank a bit too much for my own liking the last couple of nights, but oh well. The Packers beat the Steelers in the Super Bowl which made me happy, the Cavs couldn’t end the loosing streak like I was guaranteed for my birthday. The rest of the week should be good filled with work all week, the Mikey Rocks solo show on Wednesday, Thursday performing Full Collapse in its entirety (on a Thursday followed by Thursday’s?) and Daytrader on Sunday. Thanks again everyone! Oh, and I got those blank CD-Rs disc. ;)
